If you’re looking for a new credit card, it’s easy to get overwhelmed by the many choices out there, especially when it comes to travel rewards cards.
We aim to make the comparison shopping easier for you, picking our favorite cards. One of the best travel rewards cards is the Capital One® VentureOne® Rewards Credit Card. Offering robust rewards and benefits that can enhance your traveling experience, it’s an excellent choice for anyone looking for a new card.
With the Capital One® VentureOne® Rewards Credit Card, you can earn 1.25 miles for every $1 you spend. And, the rewards you earn never expire.
As an added perk, you can earn 20,000 bonus miles if you spend $1,000 on purchases within the first three months of opening an account. Each mile is worth about one cent, so that 20,000 mile bonus is worth about $200.
You can redeem your rewards for flights, hotel stays, and more, or you can redeem them for statement credits after booking your travel through VentureOne. You can also transfer your points to participating airline partners to take advantage of them, too.
If you’re a frequent traveler, the Capital One® VentureOne® Rewards Credit Card credit card can provide convenience and security through its many benefits:
- 24-Hour Travel Assistance Services: If your card is lost or stolen while traveling, you can get an emergency card replacement and a cash advance.
- Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver: Refuse the car rental company’s own coverage and use your credit card to pay for the rental to get free coverage for damage incurred due to collision or theft.
- Travel Accident Insurance: Get insurance for a covered loss at no additional charge.
- Extended Warranty: You’ll get additional warranty protection, extending the manufacturer’s warranty.
Terms & Fees
The Capital One® VentureOne® Rewards Credit Card is such a smart choice because there’s no annual fee, so you don’t have to worry about earning enough rewards to offset the fee. Plus, there’s no foreign transaction fees, making it useful for those who travel outside the United States.
There is no introductory APR for balance transfers, but there is a 0% APR offer for new purchases; you’ll get 0% APR for the first 12 months your account is open. Then, the APR increases to 14.24%, 20.24%, or 24.24%, depending on your credit history.
3 Alternatives to the Capital One® VentureOne® Rewards Credit Card
While the Capital One® VentureOne® Rewards Credit Card would work for many people, it’s not for everyone. Here are three other cards that may be a better fit for you.
1. Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card
The Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card is our top pick for travel credit cards. With it, you can earn 2X points per $1 spent on travel and dining purchases, and 1X points per $1 spent on all other purchases.
There is a $95 annual fee, but the signup bonus makes up for it. You can get 50,000 bonus points — a $625 value — if you spend $4,000 in the first three months of opening your account. That’s a 15.6% return on spend.
There’s no foreign transaction fees, and there’s no blackout dates or travel restrictions for your points.
2. Discover it® Miles
With the Discover it® Miles card, you can earn 1.5X miles per $1 spent on every purchase you make. At the end of your first year, Discover it® Miles will match the miles you’ve earned, effectively doubling your rewards. You can redeem your rewards for statement credits or gift cards.
There’s no annual fee or foreign transaction fees. However, keep in mind that Discover isn’t widely accepted outside the United States, so you may need a Visa or MasterCard to supplement it if you opt for the Discover it® Miles card.
3. Wells Fargo Propel American Express® Card
If you’re looking for a more general rewards credit card rather than travel rewards, it’s hard to find a better card than the Wells Fargo Propel American Express® Card.
When you sign up for the card and spend at least $3,000 in the first three months, you’ll receive a signup bonus of 30,000 points, a $300 value.
You’ll earn 3X points on gas, rideshare trips, flights, hotels, car rentals, and even popular streaming services. On all other purchases, you’ll earn one point per $1 spent. There’s no limit to how many points you can earn, and your points never expire.
Plus, the Wells Fargo Propel American Express® Card offers a 0% introductory APR on new purchases and balance transfers for up to 12 months.
The card also has a unique benefit: cell phone protection. With the card, you’ll get coverage in case your phone is damaged or stolen.
